JTF spokesperson in Yobe, Lt. Eli Lazarus, confirmed the incident, which took place on Monday at about 2a.m.
The attackers invaded the formation, which is located on NPN Road, shooting sporadically. They had planned to break into the police station and captured the armory.
JTF said its men were mobilized to the scene and successfully repelled the attack, but the DPO and 13 others were killed.
Lt. Lazarus said that the bodies of three of the militants were recovered, but that they fled with 10 others.
